Vincent van Gogh: Visitor Submissions by Enrique Pareja

In this letter, I want to talk with you about my visit to the Metropolitan Museum of Art at New York last October 20, 2011. I will comment you about your paintings, maybe I will use some phrases of your letters to Theo or some of your friends about your paintings. When I mention your paintings, I will use the catalogue numbers as they were developed by J. de la Faille (F) or by Jan Hulsker (JH).

At the end of the letter, you will find the list of the paintings on exhibition at the area Nineteenth Century European Paintings and Sculpture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art when I visited the Museum on October 20, 2011, and some photos I took of the paintings.

As you would remember, the painting: Peasant Woman, Peeling Potatoes (F0365r/ JH0654) is painted at the back of the painting Self-Portrait with Straw Hat (F0365v/JH1354). I have not seen any reference in your letters about this "double" painting, but I could imagine you did it because you did not have enough canvas for the two paintings. As you remember, in January 2000 I sent to our friend David Brooks a note related with all your Self-Portraits with Straw Hat, which David included at Our Gallery, but in the note I did not mention anything about this "double" painting, of which I sent you a photo composition of both paintings.

I would like to write more about paintings, but I have expended a lot of time to write to you about this visit to Met last year.
