The Van Gogh Gallery website first went online in 1996. It's had a few different homes over the years and grew from a single page to more than four thousand. It's still a work in progress, even after nearly a quarter of a century.

A complete relational database of Van Gogh artworks has been a parallel project along with the website. What started as a single record in a spreadsheet eventually evolved into one of only two complete Van Gogh databases in the world. The other is with the research department of the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam.
