David Brooks lives in Toronto, Canada and has been studying Van Gogh's life and works for more than seventeen years. He is the creator of The Vincent van Gogh Gallery, an online catalogue raisonné of Van Gogh's works that was first launched in 1996. This website is the result of thousands of hours of work and remains a valuable resource for Van Gogh scholars and enthusiasts alike.
In addition, David designed and built a relational database of Van Gogh's complete works--only one of two in the world (the other at the Van Gogh Museum's research department in Amsterdam). This database contains complete exhibition and provenance details for all of Vincent van Gogh's art works and is 43 years more up-to-date than the last published Van Gogh catalogue raisonné. The database's query functionality allows for in-depth research into the history and technical details of all of Vincent van Gogh's art works.
David curated Van Gogh: My Dream Exhibition at the Beurs van Berlage (former stock exchange) in Amsterdam. The exhibition included more than 200 high resolution, actual sized reproductions and provided an overview of Van Gogh's evolution as an artist. Many of the art works were digitally restored to compensate for a century of fading and discolouration. The exhibition has been shown in Budapest and Buenos Aires.
David worked on an extensive cataloguing project for the Van Gogh Museum research department.
