In November, 1880 Vincent met the Dutch artist Anton van Rappard. Van Gogh and van Rappard had little in common in terms of their backgrounds, but they shared a passion for painting and over the next several months would enjoy long walks together while they discussed art. Van Rappard taught Vincent perspective and lent him anatomical plates. As a result, Rappard, along with Anton Mauve and the many masters Van Gogh admired, was one of the more important influences on Van Gogh's early career as an artist.
