Augustine Roulin was born Augustine-Alix Pellicot in Lambesc, France in 1851. Madame Roulin wasn't altogether comfortable with the peculiar Dutch painter, but she nevertheless posed for Vincent van Gogh eight times. His portraits of "La Berceuse" ("the cradle rocker") are among his best known works.
