作为艺术家，文森特·凡高最负盛名的是他在短短10年内创作的近900幅油画。他的素描和水彩也是极其有名的。不过，需要记住的是，凡高用另外一种方式：随信图稿，也创作了同样出色的作品。在他整个艺术生涯中，文森特一直和他弟弟提奥保持着充满亲密和挚爱的通信。在他给他弟弟(还有给别人的)的信里，文森特常常绘下草图，来告诉他们自己绘画的进展。
下面列表里是文森特·凡高所有132幅随信图稿。这些作品从很多角度来看都不比那些最著名的油画逊色。人们可以看到作为艺术家的文森特的成长，可以看到他技艺中隐秘的表现。在凡高的随信图稿中还可看到文森特对细节，甚至对用色的令人吃惊的注意(请看：花瓶中的缎花 )。凡高的信件感人肺腑，很多信件里又有这样精美的杰作，这使得凡高信件本身也成为艺术珍品。
